About Us Karragarra Droughtmasters owned and operated by Gary and Karen Corbett, began in 2001 with the purchase of a registered Rocky View heifer at a private clearing sale. The progeny from the subsequent purchase of a Pine Valley bull for our commercial herd impressed us so much we began the transition from a purely commercial enterprise to a stud enterprise. The stud is located on the Mary River at Bell's Bridge, 20km north of Gympie where we currently run 85 breeders. Our foundation females were purchased at the Jasanda Dispersal and the 2003 SEQ Female Sales. Our intention was to purchase a range of recognised and highly regarded genetics that would provide the basis of our herd. Since then we have purchased females from leading studs such as Glenlands, Calioran, Crusader, Halcyon and Wajatryn to name a few.
We purchased semen from a variety of bulls held in high regard which was used over the next two years. In 2005, after much research we purchased Glenlands I-Spy (Horsham) at the Glenlands Sale for $37,500. 'I-Spy' was chosen for his breeding and high EBV's to compliment the females in our herd selected for their genetics and proven high fertility. We have not been disappointed with 'I-Spys' progeny. At the 2009 All Breeds Sale in Rockhampton, 6 bulls of our draft of 9 were sired by 'I-Spy' to average $5750, one of them, Karragarra Essex, topped the Droughtmaster section of the sale. Our target is to grow functional cattle with high fertility, docility for easy handling combined with good body length and muscling. |
